“Joanne Fox’s recent paintings move gracefully between two manners: one bold and strong, the other soft and contemplative. Influenced by the painters of the 1950’s and 60”s, and operating in an essentially abstract expressionist mode, Fox’s work attempts to capture states of being––a mood, emotion or an experience of the outer or inner world…a meditation on the impermanence of all we consider solid and unchanging, and a testament to humanity’s unstoppable desire to make, build and recreate. Fox describes her work as “neither landscape nor cityscape…but rather an exploration, a fresh way of looking at the world we all live in, a celebration of all the endings and beginnings that are everywhere all around us.” It is, in other words, an articulation of not just how the world we live in looks, but how we experience it in its constant state of transformation and flux.”
